Sheet does not.<\/h2>\n\n  <p>Every new box starts with work we do once. I lock the drawing against the sample notes: outside size, wall gauge, lid groove, magnet pocket, print-safe zone. Then a cutting nest for each panel, a first-off measure before the stack is released, a bonding jig if the corners are not a standard clamp, a screen or foil die if you print, and a carton spec so the last check matches the packing list.<\/p>\n\n  <p>That block of work does not care whether the ticket says 100 or 1,000. At 100 pieces each box carries one hundredth of it. At 500 it carries one five-hundredth. That is why the published band roughly halves between those two quantities on a simple magnetic box.<\/p>\n\n  <p>What never leaves the unit: sheet, laser or CNC minutes, diamond or flame polish, solvent or UV bond, magnets or hinges, protective film, piece inspection, and the inner pack. Those inputs scale with the count. From 500 to 1,000 the setup share is already small, so the band trims instead of collapsing again.<\/p>\n\n  <div class=\"callout\">Two artworks at 500 each are two proof paths and two print setups \u2014 not one 1,000-piece run. Two sizes at 250 each are two nests and two first-offs. Hardware and sheet ease a little at 1,000 because we buy a full sheet lot and load magnets from one bag, not a mixed bin. The big move is still the $220 setup line falling from $2.20 to $0.22.<\/p>\n\n  <div class=\"chips\">\n    <span class=\"chip\">100 \u2192 500: unit drops ~38%<\/span>\n    <span class=\"chip\">500 \u2192 1,000: unit drops ~14%<\/span>\n    <span class=\"chip\">Setup share: 37% \u2192 12% \u2192 7%<\/span>\n  <\/div>\n\n  <p>If I add one silkscreen color, I put another fixed line on the ticket \u2014 screen, ink match, print proof \u2014 often $60\u2013120. At 100 pieces that is another $0.60\u20131.20 on the unit. At 1,000 it is cents. UV print is the opposite: almost no screen, more minutes on every lid. Lids, bases, and walls nest on different sheet remnants unless the run is long enough to justify a dedicated sheet per panel size. I write the cutting list once. The laser or CNC still needs a focus check and a first-off measure before I release the stack \u2014 whether the list is 100 lids or 1,000.<\/p>\n\n  <p>A dimension change is a new nest. Moving one wall by 8 mm looks small on a CAD screen and wastes a morning on the bed. A magnetic-lid cube needs a square jig so the corners meet without bloom. Building that jig is a setup line. Parking panels on a rack to cool or to wait for diamond polish occupies the same slot for a 100-piece ticket as for a 1,000-piece ticket at the start of the shift. The difference is how long the rack stays loaded after the first-off is signed.<\/p>\n\n  <p>Changeover is the hidden tax on small mixed orders. Clearing the laser bed, swapping sheet color, resetting magnet polarity, wiping a screen \u2014 each swap is minutes that a single long run never pays. If you send three Pantone lids at 80 pieces each, I am changing over three times. The unit price will read like three 80-piece jobs, because that is what the floor does.<\/p>\n\n  <h2 id=\"sheet\">Sheet buying and yield<\/h2>\n\n  <p>Cast acrylic is bought in full sheets. A 100-piece cube may ride on remnant from another job or on a mixed-thickness pull. Yield is worse, and I cannot always match batch tint across two remnant sheets. At 500 and 1,000 I pull one lot, nest tighter, and the offcut share per box falls. That is why the sheet line in the stack eases a little \u2014 not because the kilogram got cheaper overnight, but because less of it is scrap.<\/p>\n\n  <p>Wall thickness does not amortise. A 5 mm box of the same outside size carries about 1.6\u20131.7 times the sheet of a 3 mm box and takes longer to polish and bond. Settle the gauge before you compare 100 against 1,000. A sample is a one-off path: hand nest, hand polish, no carton die. Treating it as \u201cunit one of 1,000\u201d would hide the real bulk cost from you and from me.<\/p>\n\n  <p>The 1,000-piece decision is usually about cash and storage, not about a second cliff in the price. If the 500-piece unit already sits in your margin, order 500, keep the nest file, and repeat.
